HAPPY 2018!

Happy New Year!

There’s something hopeful about the start of a new year, don’t you think?  It’s a chance to start fresh, get a do-over, take a mulligan and become a better version of ourselves. It’s a great idea in theory, and it’s always a noble effort to strive for self improvement. However, despite our best intentions, studies show that our New Year’s resolutions don’t last very long, no matter how enthusiastic we are about reaching them. Then we get frustrated and beat ourselves up about “failing”, which really we just set ourselves up to do with our high expectations.  (Hey, we’re all only human, right?). Bummer.

What most of us forget is that EVERY DAY is a new opportunity to change, to be better, and to do more. Every morning you get a fresh slate to write on and at any moment you can change your life for the better. And better yet, change someone else’s life for the better.

It doesn’t have to take a date established by society or social pressure to make a change. We can get up in the morning, and simply-quietly, without fanfare or announcement- choose to be different. To do things differently.  The beauty of life is that we can continue to make those choices over and over again. Resolutely and intentionally. Day after day. Until we look up and realize that not only have things become better, but we have become better along with them. Every single day is an opportunity to improve ourselves.

And by doing that, we improve the world.

And what better way to improve the world than to share love and appreciation with those around us? To perform random acts of kindness for the people whose quiet presence in our days makes it that much better? To say the things we’ve always wanted to say to anyone and everyone we’ve wanted to say it to?

So ask yourself- what am I waiting for? Why NOT today?  When is a better time to share love than RIGHT NOW? What’s most likely holding you back really is the fear that your kindness will be rejected, or not appreciated. Which is why you do it with your whole heart, for your whole self. Just for the knowledge that you reached out and tried to better the world, in your own small way.

So let’s do this! Grab yourself a letter template and share some love! Make your own questionnaire and find out something heartwarming and intriguing about your friends. Ask your parents/grandparents about how life was when they were young-everyone loves to share their story and feel like someone actually cares and wants to hear it. So rarely do we actually SEE the little pieces that make up the whole picture of who someone truly is.

Make TODAY your new years day and resolve to spread love one person at a time. Who knows how that one act will change the world? I guarantee you’ll be amazed at how much it changes yours.
